The diaphragm can rupture which can result in a poorly running engine or loss of power while driving, leading to other problems. Normally, a catch can is fitted to completely remove the PCV and collect the oil residue from the engine, but if you want a cheaper and simpler solution, you can remove the PCV valve and divert the crankcase vapours
