This started life allegedly as a 'Royal' tartan - that of the Royal House of Stuart - and theoretically the personal tartan of the reigning monarch

Another swatch of this 'Grant' tartan was added to the collection of the Highland Society of London in 1822

James IV of Scotland was killed in the battle, becoming the last monarch from the British Isles to die in battle.
