Franz Xaver Bierl served as an Unteroffizier in a Grenadier Regiment on the Eastern Front. He was severely wounded on 24 August 1943 during the fierce defensive fighting in Russia. Just over a week later, on 2 September 1943, he died of his injuries at the age of 24 in a Kriegslazarett
